Darwinism Is Incompatible With Christianity

    Today I’m going to get a little bit into what the term ‘christian worldview’ or ‘secular worldview’ means. These are terms that you may or may not have heard a lot, depending on your christian circles. Having a christian worldview would actually make you different from the secularists. In other words, you would be noticed. Isn’t it nice when no one notices you, or your bakery, or your teaching degree, or your family? It’s much easier to just go along to get along. 

     Many christians might read, Romans 12:18 “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all” and think that it means they should get along whatever the cost. Even if the cost is abandoning bits and bobs from the Word of God, attacking the Church of the living God for daring to be so different, (anti-secular) or other believers for believing the antiquated ideas found in the Scriptures and imposing their beliefs on unbelievers. 

Taken in the context of Romans 12:9-21 though, we see a very different picture. A picture of Love for God and neighbor. A picture of self sacrifice for the sake of the gospel.  

     “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another (the saints) in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another (the saints). Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Sacrifice your good reputation to live at peace, sacrifice your pride, sacrifice your anger, don’t repay your enemy for the evil he has done to you, hate what is evil, and hold to what is good. It is interesting how we can twist scripture so easily when we take it out of context.  

     All that being said, you can actually oppose someone's worldview, and still love them. To reiterate that statement, you can oppose someone's worldview and love them by doing so. Secularists don’t believe that’s true, and christians, who are easily guilted, are cowed into silence. Secularists have even convinced many christians to believe secular propaganda in opposition to the Word of God. You see, when a christian abandons the Bible, it becomes very easy to convince him of this and that and whatever, because he doesn’t really know the God he claims to believe in, and he cannot understand the created order if he does not know the Creator.  

     Darwinism is one such thing that some christians have abandoned the Word of God for. Think about this for a moment, you went to a friends house as a kid, you suddenly found yourself face to face with a set of rules, or lack of rules that simply wouldn’t fly with your mother. Perhaps you were not allowed to watch PG rated movies at home, and then suddenly you were doing just that in your friends comfy basement, eating popcorn and drinking sodas as if your mother no longer existed. Later, your friends mom told your mom what you spent your time doing, and you found yourself in trouble. Now imagine if you did that in your own house with your friend, right under your mother's nose, and then she found out. Can you imagine what would have become of you under the fire of her wrath and judgement?

     You see, when christians adopt a secular worldview, it’s actually like playing by your friends house rules in your own house. God is your Father because He created you and adopted you, and the kingdom is Christs because “the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever” and the rules, statutes and laws are all subject to him. 

     Your friend is an atheist. He doesn’t believe your God exists, and he doesn’t care about most of his rules or statutes, and he wants to do what he feels like doing, in your house. 

     Darwinism is incompatible with Christianity. Here you have someone who has their own explanation of how the world came to exist through evolution. How human beings came to exist. How the earth functions. The Atheists worldview is what all his ideas revolve around. He believes some people have more value than others. You can see this with abortion. He believes in the survival of the fittest. You can see this with euthanasia, the systematic abortion of down syndrome babies in France. Why? Because to him, human beings have only as much value as they contribute, because we all evolved from protoplasm. His creation story determines his value system. What he does to his neighbor incurs no judgment or reward in his eyes. Nothing matters.      

     Christians not only have the oldest, most reliable history book on the face of the earth, that is detailed enough to give us a general idea of how old the earth is, but creation also functions in a manner that suggests this book is true. You might go, ‘oh but carbon dating’ is an invention of man. Either you believe God, or you don’t. There’s no middle ground. Either God created the heavens and the earth, or He didn't. There’s no middle ground. Because if God is a liar, the Scriptures can’t be trusted at all. And if they can’t be trusted at all, then what salvation do you imagine you have? 

     Because christians believe that God created the earth and made mankind in his image, and gave mankind dominion over the earth, and commissioned mankind to fill the face of the earth and subdue it, everything matters. If we are all made in the image of God, we all have intrinsic value and purpose despite our infirmities, or our social value, or even our compatibility with life. Our contribution to society does not at all determine our value. We know Christ was held accountable for our actions, and we know the atheist who is not found in Christ will be held accountable for his own actions before a living and holy God. 

     When Christ commissioned that we should go into all the earth baptizing the nations in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that he had commanded, we need to understand that he literally meant for us to do that. How does one call an atheist to belief in a holy God if we have adopted any part of his worldview. If we have adopted any part of it, we are calling God a liar. If we have adopted Darwinism, then nothing matters my friend. Who are you to say anyone has value before God, if God is not our Creator? If we are only animals, we are not made in God's image, and if we are not made in God's image, we have no intrinsic value. If we have no intrinsic value, who determines justice for what has been done to us, or who can judge us for what we do to anyone else?

     The Word of God, the antiquated Scriptures you are so ashamed of, the christian worldview that would require you to change how you live, it all matters. If you want some of the world, and some of Christ, you should know that the bible says “you cannot serve two masters. Either you will love the one and hate the other, or you will hate the one and love the other.” Which one are you hating? Jesus said “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” What commandments? Well, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” What law? God's law my friend. From the old testament. Exodus 20. His House, his law, his statutes, his rules.    

he says:

“It is TOO LIGHT a thing that you (Christ) should be my servant

to raise up the tribes of Jacob

and to bring back the preserved of Israel;

I will make you as a light for the NATIONS,

that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

Thus says the LORD,

the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One,

to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nation,

the servant of rulers:

“Kings shall see and arise;

princes, and they shall prostrate themselves;

because of the LORD, who is faithful,

the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

     Your worldview, the christian worldview, eats Darwinism up for breakfast. And I say that without shame. The Atheists worldview depends on yours, and borrows from yours, because you see, God’s law given in Exodus 20 would have you treat your neighbor as though he is made in the Image of God. The Atheist likes that, because he wants you to treat him with dignity and respect. He also wants to appear to have some moral credibility. 

     The Law of God is your credibility though, not his. Suddenly you have an atheist appealing to the ancient law of an antiquated dusty old book for some sort of moral compass, and it should cause you to see one thing, Truth is Truth no matter how many ages have passed. His worldview doesn’t contain any moral credibility at all. For him truth is relative. He has no reason to believe rape, incest, or pedophilia are evil. He has no reason to defend the oppressed, and he has no reason to believe in any form of justice. If he was consistent with his own worldview, he would admit it is all meaningless.      

Justice would require a moral standard. Without a moral standard, it is the survival of the fittest. If someone else takes advantage of you or someone you love, they’re just more fit and they deserve to get what they want because they have the power to get it. 

     With God is justice, dignity, respect for human life. With God is value for neighbor. Your God, my christian friend, is worth knowing. Take up that antiquated Bible of yours, get yourself into one of those churches that values the Word of God. Obey your God, love the saints, love the unbeliever by calling them to repent of their sins and teaching them obey Jesus law. Jesus kingdom is advancing, and his law word is going out to the ends of the earth.

“Why do the nations conspire

    and the peoples plot in vain?

  The kings of the earth rise up

    and the rulers band together

    against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,

  “Let us break their chains

    and throw off their shackles.”

  The One enthroned in heaven laughs;

    the Lord scoffs at them.

  He rebukes them in his anger

    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,

  “I have installed my king

    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

  I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;

    today I have become your father.

  Ask me,

    and I will make the nations your inheritance,

    the ends of the earth your possession.

    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

   Therefore, you kings, be wise;

    be warned, you rulers of the earth.

   Serve the Lord with fear

    and celebrate his rule with trembling.

   Kiss his son, or he will be angry
